I have already commented here sometime that the only 2 main sources of traffic that can differentiate into a website are: referral traffic sources or direct reference sources. But apart from this, we can understand better the statistics of our blog to take advantage, if in addition to the source we add another parameter in the equation, as the combination with time or time it arrives the visit.
That is, if we take the total set of views that we get to blog in one day we would see that some are related to what we have written today because as usual and recommended, will have a Twitter account and a Facebook page associated the blog. Thus, when we publish a new article, and share it on social networks, automatically or manually, then get one result in visits from people who follow us on these networks. But this traffic is rather ephemeral, coming mostly in the time that is shared and whether the publication is achieved virality, every time you return to share on Facebook or on Twitter RTwittear by another user. But just beyond that time of social and viral momentum backand not will get more impact nor bring us traffic.
On the other hand, looking into our statistics one day, we will see that regardless of social origin visits, which are usually the more traffic you bring, we also have others that do not appear to relate to social media, because they are written contents in the past, and instead has stimulated the interest of the users.
This is what we call the long tail, very long trail that few visitors which together are important for the blog, because in some cases almost equal the social momentum.
The motive for these visits is because they are users who have been remembered they had read content on your blog, because they clicked in an article that reminds us and referenced with a link, or they had saved in their favorites browser, or favorite sharing sites like Delicious, or because someone searched on a search engine and ended up as something related to our blog result.
In addition to promoting the social momentum and attention for users of social networks, we should see what articles are part of the long tail and see what they have in common, and that unlike them they will never have the honor to bring visitors throughout the life of the blog, because if we promote this type of content, without realizing it, we will be enhancing memorable content that users visit on a recurring basis, beyond the social momentum.
