Today I want to discuss a little trick that could be classified under the SMO (Social Media Optimization), which is the set of techniques within the Social Media to help us optimize our social media presence, as in the SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
It is usual, that all web project today either an online store, a website, or a blog like this one, have their own alter ego on Facebook with a fan page, which allows you to be closer to its user community on the Net of nets. But once created, customized, unless continually share in the time line of our fan page only links to our website or our blog, which is not always the best recommendation. Users who enter Facebook page does not have easy access to our website, where in theory is the reason that you’ve created, so that the desired transfer of traffic is not so obvious.
What I do in my pages is to use a little trick, until Facebook fix this, if he does, as I understand it, or is it on purpose, or is a design error, but I can not believe it is, as we shall see has its inconsistencies. Let me explain.
If you go in as an administrator of a Facebook page, and you click on Edit page> Update info, you have several fields to fill, and one of them is the Website, so that the information in the url of your site’s stuffed, it has identified. But then, to save and view your site as a normal user, you realize that this information is not visible, unless you click on the little link: About, that’s to the left under the avatar and description. So many times, not to say most, Facebook user will never get to enter your website to be a customer/user/visitor, losing all the potential possible.
To fix this, and have always visible the url of your website, at a glance with a link that works and take you to the site by clicking. Again enters Edit page> Update info, and where it says Short Description: populates this field with a short description, but mostly add your full url (with http://) and saves. So to get a user to your fan page, your URL will become a link that works automatically, and without further user can access to your website.
And I meant this inconsistency by Facebook, because it would be normal to see the link filling only the appropriate field, as in Twitter for example, but if he does not want it to look, then it makes little sense to convert url’s brief description in the links automatically, because then those who are dedicated to this, sooner or later we’ll find it and take advantage of it.
I hope you liked it, and had some knowledge if you do not, you now serve to bring more traffic from Facebook. Ah! and by the way .. I will share with everyone, because I as a user who enters Facebook pages, I also find it annoying to have to do more clicks to see the site you want. Do not you think?
